SITE EXTENSION

We will have room for a few extra plots once the roadway has been constructed

Len our oldest plotholder age 96 has finally hung up his hoe. His health is good but his knees are letting him down. We will miss him and his vast amount of knowledge. Fortunately he lives close to the allotments and promises to drop in and see us as often as he can. WE SEND LEN ALL OUR BEST WISHES FOR A LONG AND HEALTHY LIFE.

Nick Lomax and daughters start work on their brand new plot.

Ros loves her friut and vegetables and grows them organically. She uses manure and her own compost to enrich the soil. She also grows comfrey which can be used to make a liquid manure, providing a good source of potassium. The only problem with comfrey is that it has a large taproot which makes it very difficult to dig up if you wanted to remove it.

Phil, spraying his potatoes with a fungicide to guard against potato blight. Blight spreads rapidly in warm humid conditions and appears on leaves as brown patches with paler margins. If infected lift early potatoes as soon as possible. Cut back the 'haulms' of infected plants above the ground and burn the infected material.  Leave tubers in the ground for two weeks before lifting.

Phil has won best plot for 2007. The grass paths make it very attractive. Points are awarded for health and vigour of fruit and vegetables, crop rotation, maintenance, neatness and design.

Best newcomer was won by Lisa Wall. A well kept plot with raised beds at the front and fruit trees at the rear. Lisa is a very enthusiastic plot holder who came fourth in the show and also ran the tombola stall. Well done.
